The tests we perform

Every product undergoes a series of laboratory checks before entering production.

  • Product test

    Handle jerk test

The purpose is to evaluate the strength and resistance of the handles and straps. After the product is loaded, it is closed and its handle or strap is fixed to the test machine's “J-hook” and subjected to numerous stresses.

    Tumble test

Simulation of an airplane trip: from check-in to retrieval. The product is filled, closed and placed in a freezer at -12°C for 4 hours in order to reproduce baggage conditions in the cargo hold. It is then placed in the tumbler and subjected to 50 drop cycles.

    Mileage test

This allows for the evaluation of the product's structural integrity and its resistance at the attachment points: wheels, handles and parts that are subject to impact. The loaded product is closed and then runs a 32 km course of short and long obstacles along a transport belt.

    Straight drop test

The fully loaded suitcase is dropped on corners: 25 drops from a height of 60 cm with the product at a temperature of -12°C, to test the bag's structural resistance.

  • Leather tests

    pH test

This allows for the determination of the actual pH value of leather, which should be between 3.5 and 4.5.

    Veslic test

It's useful to estimate the resistance of any type of leather to wearing, scraping or colour rubbing. The leather sample is tested dry, damp and also under a removable weight of 1 kg.

    Water staining

The leather's response to stains is determined by pouring small drops of water on its surface and then checking it every 30 minutes and after 24 hours. No stain, mark or wave is allowed on the leather.

    Tape test

Checks the resistance of the leather's finish. A layer of adhesive tape is applied and the leather is checked after it has been ripped off.

Colour fastness to water and perspiration

Serves to determine the product's colour fastness upon contact with water and perspiration. The fabrics used in clothing are checked for any colour transfer.

  • Fabric tests

Adhesion of coating / tensile breaking / seam breaking

Allows for the determination of the resistance to breakage for all materials used in the products, or the resistance of the adhesion between the fabric and its support. The samples, cut on both the warp and the weft, are placed between the clamps of a tensor.

    Water resistance test

It's necessary to evaluate the textile's resistance to water. A tool that looks like a watering can is used to pour water on the fabric as if it were rain — 200 ml of water in total. The water's penetration is then evaluated in terms of how much of the textile's surface is wet: it needs to be below 20%.

    Crocking

To determine the amount of colour that may be transferred from a surface of dyed textiles to another fabric by being rubbed under dry and wet conditions.

    Abrasion resistance

The purpose is to determine the fabric's resistance to abrasion. Fabric samples are fastened in place and subjected to being scraped by a rotating platform. In order for the test to be considered successful, there must be no broken threads in the fabric.

Colour fastness to water and perspiration

Serves to determine the product's colour fastness upon contact with water and perspiration. The fabrics used in clothing are checked for any colour transfer.

  • Metal Accessories

    Oxydation test

The metal accessory is placed in an environment with a very high moisture content and a controlled temperature of 65°C, in contact with a leather sample (element with acidic pH). The resistance time is 96 hours. The test is used to highlight any oxidation of the accessory which, of course, is not permitted.

    Salt test

The metal accessory is placed in a special machine where a salt spray with 50% sodium chloride concentration is sprayed at a controlled temperature of 35°C for a period of 24 hours. The test is used to highlight any oxidation of the accessory which, of course, is not permitted.

    Cross cut test

The surface finish of the accessory is cut with a special blade, until it reaches the metal layers below. The cuts are made close to each other and checkerboard style, to create smaller finishing surfaces and therefore those that are more susceptible to detachment, as if they were small flakes. Subsequently, a dedicated adhesive is applied and removed once it has totally dried: the finish should not detach.

Product Maintenance

Combined Shape Line 4
Maintenance of leather parts

The leather is a "live" material, so any small imperfections, spots or grains are a distinctive feature of the leather and guarantee the absence of synthetic finishing substances. To maintain the original characteristics of the leather unaltered over time, we recommend using only specific neutral wax-based fluid products that do not contain solvents, benzene or alcohol for its cleaning.
Use a small quantity of product on a soft cloth, never directly on the leather, and apply it gently on the area with small circular movements. Do not immerse the product in water. If it comes into contact with water, dry it quickly by dabbing with a dry cotton cloth, without rubbing. Do not expose the product to sources of direct heat. Do not iron. Remember that leather might release traces of colour as a result of repeated rubbing on clothing. For manteinance and cleaning you can buy our Cleaning kit for leather and fabric.
Maintenance of fabric part

To clean the fabric, we recommend you use a damp sponge with water and mild soap. Do not use soap or water directly on the product. Gently rub the fabric and then rinse with a clean damp sponge, then dab with a cotton cloth. Let the fabric dry while avoiding direct contact with sources of heat or sunlight.
We recommend that you pad the product well while it is drying to help it retain its original shape. If after cleaning slight marks or areas having a slightly different colour should appear, perform the procedure on a larger surrounding area to make sure the product has a uniform appearance. To avoid marks or discolouration, do not use chemicals or solvents of any kind. Do not iron. Do not dry clean.
For manteinance and cleaning you can buy our Cleaning kit for leather and fabric.
